Stay connected v

Today it’s been exactly 2 months since we began to Shelter In Place at home. We continue our life with all its duties and work in new and different ways. I design and make new jewelry. Clients have reached out and ordered Mothers’ day, birthday and graduation gifts and I love how so many of you have purchased a beautiful piece of jewelry to lift your own spirit and decided to wear jewelry at home during lock down. Because Why Not?
I have started a few new painting projects and I can’t help but notice that some days I wake up with energy, inspiration and creativity that I can put to work and other days I feel anxious for the future and creatively paralyzed and must succumb to the fact that nothing will emerge from my hands. On those days I clean the house, scrub the toilets, get the laundry done and organize cluttered spaces. I’m lucky to live in a place where I can go for long walks that help shift the mood.
Taking on practical tasks can push the worries away. Sewing masks for friends and family close by, knitting, cooking and writing electronic letters to family and friends far away. When we realized that Shelter In Place would probably be more than a few weeks, I decided to start a little garden. A member of our household built raised beds and we started seeds and seedlings. Now, several weeks later we can harvest the first basil, arugula, lettuce, dill and chives and a few small tomatoes are showing up. It’s fun to follow the garden grow every day, being outside in the clear air, listening to the many sounds of birds and insects. 2 months and many projects later I feel connected to my community and to the Earth and am grateful for the people in my life. How are you doing?
